Quick Start Guide

Getting started on the ShiftKey app is easy. But before you can start picking up shifts, you'll need to set up your account and verify that you're eligible to work. That might take some time (as background checks and drug screens tend to do), but if you follow the steps outlined below, you'll be working before you know it.

Sign Up on the Web

1

Fill Out Basic Info

Provide your name, email, and phone number and create a password. Then read and accept the ShiftKey Terms of Service (TOS) and Privacy Policy. Now you’ve created your account! But you’re not done yet. Move to step 2.

2

Select Your Home Base

Enter the zip code that matches the city/area where you’d like to pick up shifts. Move to step 3.

3

Enter Your Mailing Address

Choose where you’d like to receive important documents, such as tax forms and your PayCard (if you’d like to be paid the business day after your shift has been verified). Move to step 4.

4

Choose Your Specialty

In this case, “specialty” means the role you’re licensed for, such as RN, LVN, CNA, OT, etc. Move to step 5.

5

Add Your Skills

Examples include acute care, long-term care, etc. Select all that apply. Move to step 6.

6

Sign the Hep B Attestation

You do not need to have completed the Hep B vaccination series to pick up shifts with the ShiftKey app, but you do need to sign the Hep B attestation whether you’ve completed it or not. Your typed name serves as your signature. Move to step 7.

7

Add Occupational & Accident Insurance (OAI) and Medical Malpractice Insurance Information, or Opt-In to Purchasing it via the ShiftKey Platform.

As you already know, the ShiftKey TOS requires all independent healthcare professionals to carry OAI and medical malpractice insurance. Move to step 8.

8

Complete IRS Form W-9

More information about IRS Form W-9 can be found here. Move to step 9.

9

Enter Your Date of Birth

Your date of birth could be needed for license verification, state background checks, and/or registry checks. Move to step 10.

10

Choose How You'd Like to be Paid

To get paid the day after your shift has been verified, choose the PayCard option. To get paid by weekly direct deposit, choose the direct deposit option. Move to step 11.

11

Head to the Application Status Page

Under licensing, enter your license number.

Under documents, upload your government-issued photo ID, a valid TB test, and a current CPR certification card, along with any requested optional documents. Move to step 12.

🔔 Optional documents are optional. But some facilities require these documents, so if you don't upload them, you won't see shifts from these facilities. Head to the FAQ if you have any questions about how to upload documents or what documents are acceptable.

12

Request a Drug Screen and Background Check

From the application status page, request a drug screen.

You’ll receive an email from our third-party vendor, Checkr, with further instructions. Head to the FAQ if you have any questions about what to do once you get the email.

Make sure you set up your drug screening appointment and attend it. Once the drug screen clears, you’ll move to the last step of the process, which is requesting and passing a background check. Move to step 13.

🔔 You will not be able to request a background check until you pass the drug screen. If you are not prompted to schedule a drug screen, then you are not required to complete one.
